Hi guys,

If you have not heard, Zisheng is holding Worship Dynamics lessons every Saturday (up til church camp), 1230-3pm, at Salvation Army basement chapel.

This course is to prepare us for the upcoming church camp at Batam and of course, to build new musicians for the more contemporary services that are going to be held when our new building is up. The content of the lessons varies from the technicality of music to blending in and harmonising with your team members. Each lesson covers the theory and the practical segment which band members get a chance to jam to familiar tunes and be introduced to new ones.

All Glow members are welcome, just bring along a learning heart, come down and have wonderful fellowship with your brothers and sisters!

Hi all,

As most of yall know, we will be presenting a song during service this sunday. Dress code is jeans and white top. Girls, you are allowed to wear round neck tops while guys, yall have to wear collared shirts (e.g polo tee). Please dress accordingly and presentably. Do not wear sandals/slippers/crocs. Wear covered shoes! Girls, please wear flats instead of sneakers, if possible. Be in church by 830am! Be punctual!!!

Baby Erik and the Old Man

We were the only family with children in the restaurant. I sat Erik in a high chair and noticed everyone was quietly eating and talking.

Suddenly, Erik squealed with glee and said, "Hi there." He pounded his fat baby hands on the high-chair tray. His eyes were wide with excitement and his mouth was bared in a toothless grin. He wriggled and giggled in excitement.

I looked around and saw the source of his excitement. It was a man with a tattered rag of coat; dirty, greasy and worn. His trousers were baggy with the zip half down and his toes poked out of would-be shoes. His shirt was dirty and his hair was uncombed and unwashed. His whiskers were too short to be called a beard and his nose was so varicose it looked like a road map.

We were too far from him to smell, but I was sure he smelled. His hands waved and flapped on loose wrists. "Hi there, baby; hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster," the man said to Erik. My husband and I exchanged looks, "What do we do?" Erik continued to laugh and answer, "Hi, hi there."

Everyone in the restaurant noticed and looked at us and then at the man. The old geezer was creating a nuisance with my beautiful baby. Our meal came and the man began shouting from across the room, "Do you know peek-a-boo? Hey, look, he knows peek-a-boo." Nobody thought the old man was cute. He was obviously drunk. My husband and I were embarrassed. We ate in silence, all except for Erik, who was running through his repertoire for the admiring man, who in turn, reciprocated with his cute comments.

We finally got through the meal and headed for the door. My husband went to pay the cheque and told me to meet him in the car park. The old man sat poised between me and the door. "Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me or Erik," I prayed. As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back trying to side-step him and avoid any air he might be breathing. As I did, Erik leaned over my arm, reaching with both arms in a baby's "pick-me-up" position. Before I could stop him, Erik had propelled himself from my arms to the man's.

Suddenly a very old smelly man and a very young baby consummated their love relationship. Erik in an act of total trust, love, and submission laid his tiny head upon the man's ragged shoulder. The man's eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His aged hands full of grime, pain and hard labour - gently, so gently, cradled my baby's bottom and stroked his back. No two beings have ever loved so deeply for so short a time. I stood awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms for a moment, and then his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in a firm commanding voice, "You take care of this baby." Somehow I managed, "I will," from a throat that contained a stone. He pried Erik from his chest - unwillingly, longingly, as though he was in pain. I received my baby, and the man said, "God bless you, ma'am, you've given me my Christmas gift."

I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik in my arms, I ran for the car. My husband was wondering why I was crying and holding Erik so tightly, and why I was saying, "My God, my God, forgive me." I had just witnessed Christ's love shown through the innocence of a tiny child who saw no sin, who made no judgement; a child who saw a soul, and a mother who saw a suit of clothes. I was a Christian who was blind, holding a child who was not. I felt it was God asking, "Are you willing to share your son for a moment?" - when He shared His for all eternity.

The ragged old man, unwittingly, had reminded me, "To enter the Kingdom of God, we must become as little children."

Are we like little children?

Dear Glowers,
I just want to share my thoughts on our beloved Pastor's sermon which touched me deeply today. Reverend Foong encouraged us with verses from Mark 1:1-8 with the topic: Serving Purpose.

Reverend Foong used an interesting example of pre-flight checks performed for every flight flown by an experienced pilot to remind us that God have a set of standards for our lives to do daily self-checks in preparing to serve Him.
Thus, our Pastor continues to encourage us to do self checks when we are serving God in the following 3 areas:

We are God's children (our relationship w God)Purpose: When discouraged in our serving, we remind ourselves that we are children of God and we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God! So no one can determine our worth except God!

We must follow Jesus' way (Jesus' serving attitude and ways)Purpose: there are a lot of worldly ways of doing things and knowledge which can prove to be very effective. However, we have to take a step back to check whether these are in line to God's teaching to be used in our ministry for God. Jesus' serving attitude is the basis and foundation for serving in God's ministry. Pastor warns us that the lack of basic Jesus' serving attitude in our serving is not considered as serving in church.

We need to live out Jesus' life (we need to be a testimony for Christ) Purpose: People will know that We are Christ's disciples when we love one another. Pastor describe to us what Lukewarm Christians are like in the following countries:
United States: Frozen
Hong Kong: Liability
Singapore AMK church:???

Going back to the interesting example mentioned earlier, pre-flight checks are required even for the most experienced pilots who have flown thousand of hours with the same plane. I love to watch a programme by National Geographic named 'Air Crash Investigation'. In the programme I learn that when pre-flight checks are not performed, accidents more often than not happens which have heavy and irreversible consequences.

Thus, I would like to challenge all Glowers to perform all self-checks prescribed by God encouraged through our Pastor to prepare ourselves for our service to God. After all, is not our goal to be a pleasing sacrifice to our Father through the works of our hands?

Hey! The blog is revived! So how's everyone! It's 2010 already, ready for new challenges? Hope everyone is geared up for the new challenges and for the new year!

So the youth ministry is still going to stick with the 3G theme for this year. The GLOW's vision and mission are stated on the left! (Take a look!)

Stated below are the 2010 CAC Youth Ministry's vision and mission, please read thru :)

Vision
Leading youths to become disciples of God

Mission
Provide an environment for spiritual growth, leading them in worshipping the Lord, learning biblical truths, mould their faith in Christ and caring for the community youths.

All fellow GLOWers! Please read thru this 2010 Protection Scheme come up by Yunyuan!

1. Worship practice to start at 7pm, Thursdays. Instruments to be set up by 7:20pm.

2. Sharing and prayer for Glow and Congregation will commence at 7:20pm. It is compulsory.

3. If Saturday practice is granted to us, Worship practice for Sunday Service has priority over training sessions placed on Saturdays.

4. Swopping of musicians should be minimised. Swopping of musicians MUST be communicated with the Worship Leaders.

5. Use of worship equipment is subject to approval by Glow Leader on a case by case basis. In the event approval is granted, Jenny Kan Shi will open the doors for you and lock it at end of the day. No keys will be passed to any individual.

6. If approached by anyone to participate in serving together with other ministries or events, please do not agree in your capacity. Kindly politely direct him/her to speak to Glow Leader.

7. For team members who are understudying, approval will be granted by Glow Leader to be ready up stage.

LiFEgame is a creative simulation game of life that seeks to provide an environment for participants to discover God's purposes for their lives in this world. A "make-believe" world (a city) is set up in a camp or retreat environment where participants are given the opportunity to live out their whole lives however they wish. Starting at age 15, they begin to pursue their dream, get an education, find a job, buy their first car, purchase a house, get married, raise a family, and climb the ladder of success. Every hour they will age 5 years and they have to take care of their personal needs like food, clothing, health, etc. Like in real-life they may face health problems, accidents, fines, or even death as a result. No one knows how long they will live. Some might die prematurely while others may retire at a ripe old age before they meet their creator face to face.

LiFEgame is about living life and that's where the reality of the real world sets in. Eventually each participant question, "What's the point of life?" and that, is the whole point of the LiFEgame -an opportunity to discover God's purpose for living. Coupled with PurposeDriven Life workshops, small-group discussions, dramas, mimes, songs, videos, & messages, the LiFEgame challenges participants to make a commitment to Christ. On average, about 80% of the participants made one of these life-changing decisions. As of December 2007, some 32 LiFEgame camps have been conducted, impacting more than 6,000 lives for Christ ranging from youths to retirees. Are you ready for the impact?

Hi everyone!! Sorry for the lack of posts and updates! But hey, vday's just over, hope yall had a fantastic one with your friends and family :)

Anyway, for those who attended the combined cell gathering on Saturday, should know by now that our new theme for youth ministry is 3G! It stands for Go, Grow, and GLOW! And yes, our worship ministry is the GLOW team of the youth ministry! Go, Grow and Glow are based on the food pyramid whereby one needs different kinds of food to maintain a healthy lifestyle. GLOW food consists of fruits and vegetables, whereby most vitamins and minerals are obtained from for our bodies. Thus, through worship, we are giving praise to our Lord - a supplement and a need to have a healthy spiritual life! So let's work together to make this a GREAT GLOW TEAM for the youth ministry, and ultimately for GOD! :)

Jamming sessions will be led by Bryan or Yunyuan. Current musicians are also welcomed to join to help out and teach those on probation some new tricks or techniques! So what are YOU waiting for! Hello hello :]
Let’s see, I really thank God for putting me where I am now, in this church where I grew up at and where I’m studying at now. And also where I’m serving Him in now at 第二堂.
I remember that time when I got my posting for where to go after o levels, it was none of the choices I wanted. And I felt that I’ve got no where to go. Few options appeared in front of me but when I decided to grab it, it’s gone. At then I really felt as if I’m for nothing, I couldn’t get into any course I wanted.
But yet at that time, everyone encouraged me and said that God will definitely make a way for me. And it of course came through! I got to know about the school I’m at now – at-sunrice. And it’s very amazing how God lead me to this course. And I thank Him (: And now I’m at my last term.
So just to share something I’ve learned a few years back, never think that you’ve run out of options and everything’s impossible, cause God will make everything possible, in His time. :]]

Church will be providing transport for the gospel rally on 11-14 Sept. To and fro church. For those who are interested in taking the buses, please inform Wenjiao gs. Meeting time will be at 6pm and buses will leave at 630pm.

For those going on their own, there will be shuttle buses at various MRT stations (Bedok, Ang Mo Kio, Tampines, Boon Lay) But you will have to pay for those (Adults - $2, Students/Children/Senior Citizens - $1). There will be free shuttle bus to indoor stadium from Kallang MRT, where the frequency of the buses is 10mins.

WHO IS JESUS? By Dr Stephen Tong, 唐崇荣牧师! He's a really good preacher [he's got a degree in music and an impressive choir under him!], humorous, engaging and very inspiring. I've been to Newton Life Church numerous times to listen to his sermons (he preaches there every Sunday night at 730pm). He really makes one think about the issues discussed. He touches on topics which are not usually spoken about and his explanation goes really in depth, e.g. relationship between God and Man, evolution..etc. Although some topics touched may be not that easy to understand, the topics provoke thoughts and make you want to know more about God.

SOOO this is a good chance to invite your non-Christian friends to this rally! Afraid that you or your friend(s) may not be comfortable with Mandarin? Dont worry! There will be a super cool translator who will translate into English for you! Even if you're not bringing any friends, you also can go and attend this rally! You may be able to catch performances by his choir! I've been to his Christmas gospel rallies and I learnt something every time I attended. These rallies are only held annually! So do go and listen (:

Heyhey, how have all of you been! I've been GREAT (: Looking back on the past 7 months, God has really been there for me, guiding me and strengthening me. Sometimes, it's just not easy to juggle between studies and serving, and I'm sure those who are working and serving would agree too; having to spend the few hours practising for Sunday's worship after a long tiring day at work/school; leading the worship, playing the instruments, singing, preparing the ppt, adjusting the volumes and whatnots on the sound mixer.. I dont know about all of you, but I've always enjoyed worship practices; the fellowship, the joy in serving however tired I may be that day.. Dont yall feel it too? (: God's always among us, dont you think? If not, there wouldnt be the fellowship and the joy (: In any case, dont give up okay! Yes, sometimes it may be hard to handle between work/studies, family, and serving BUT HE's there for us, 因为主的能力是在人的软弱上。加油加油! (:

Tingting - Her projects! She needs to rush them for the dateline (which is next week)! Please pray for her! Her health, her time management, and that she will rely on God during this stressful period!

1) HEALTH; Jiachuan and Bryan are not feeling well now, please pray for quick recovery.

2) 社区服务日; 21 JUNE (Sat)! Pray that everything will go on smoothly! And that we will have the courage to invite our non-Christian friends over to participate in the activities and love to serve the community (:

3) Exams;
- The JC 1s (Yiyong, Yongjing and I) are having our common tests the week after the coming one. We will be left with just one week to study. Pray for our time management, and that we will not be too stressed during this period.

- Ziyu's piano practical exam on the 19 June (Thurs)

Shalom! It has always been a joy for me to serve in 2nd worship as a bassist or guitarist. I’ve served in 2nd worship since I was 17yrs old, I think haha. So it has been approximately 6yrs since I first served. In the past, I was really proud to be in the 2nd worship. I always felt that my guitar skills were probably better than my peers, that’s why I was approached to serve. But sadly to say, that wasn’t the case. Still, I was over the moon when I played on stage for the first time as a bassist. The enthusiasm n pride I had slowly faded with time and it was responsibility that was holding me back. The times I was practicing in church, I could well have been out with my friends having a merry time. There are times when I felt like just giving up due to my heavy workload(actually I was just being lazy and wanted to spend more time playing computer games). When the thought of quitting came to my mind on this particular Sunday, a message from a servant of God (I forgot which pastor or preacher) struck me hard. God is omnipotent, He does not need me to play for Him on Sundays, and there are definitely better options. He doesn’t lack bassists who want to serve Him. I was given a great opportunity to serve Him instead. He is giving me this chance to serve Him, and I almost blew it. I felt terrible after that and I prayed to God, apologizing for my attitude, and decided to offer myself as a living sacrifice to Him. Though there are times when I couldn’t be there for practice, quitting was never an option for me anymore. Through serving, my bond with God got closer as well and nothing tastes better than serving God and being close to Him spiritually. I encourage all of you, my brothers n sisters, to serve Him whole heartedly and enjoy every single worship practice. God bless~

Continuing the race for eternity.

It's been 7 years going 8 years since I started serving in the Worship Ministry, first as a vocalist, and then as a Worship Leader in 2003. Through these years, I see how God worked and blessed the AMK 2nd Worship congregation through the worship team members who are faithfully serving at His altar, every single week of the year.

No doubt there are moments when I felt tired and uninspired. But God always motivated me and encouraged me by putting brothers and sisters around me who are fiery and committed to his call for worship, to remind me of his initial call and purpose for me in the team.

During these few months of serving, He placed lovely sisters like Moyi and Chunai as well as a gifted brother Yiyong around me. Through their lives, their commitment to serve, their sense of responsibility and their willingness to learn and share, I was deeply moved and inspired to do more for God in this ministry. They reminded me of the initial vigour and fire that I had when I first started and all these spurred me to carry on and to continue with the race for eternity.

So I thank God for every single member that He placed in the worship team and may we strive to do our very best for God and give our all to Him so that His name may be glorified and forever more. Amen!

Walking with God is never easy. Serving as a 招待员 is sometimes harder than it seemed. Many a time, we have to be the people to usher people to the correct place. This is something practicing before hand is not really possible. But with many encounters. I find that whenever I meet with difficulties or with any sudden change of plans. I feel that God was always there in helping overcoming it with the help of my partners in 招待. He has slowly shaped me to think on the spot so that I will be able to face these difficulties. He has also given me a humble heart to learn and not to be proud when there is success.

Once, in the middle of P&W, we realized that the speaker did not have water to drink. Therefore, one of the ushers went to find one. Suddenly, the ‘offerings’ had started and there was only 1 usher then. Me. I thought on the spot and planned out how I should give out the bags. Suddenly, God’s helping hands came and people whom were not ushers came to help me with the offerings. My plan was not carried out. I was saved by God even before I asked for one.
Sometimes when unexpected things like usher did not come or was unable to do so. I had always accepted to back them up.

I want to be an usher because; I know I am not very good with music, nor with sound system. And that I truly want to serve God. One day, Chun Hui told me that 招待员 really needed manpower and after thinking over it, I readily accepted that offer on the spot. It may seem rash at that point of time. But I see it as an option to serve God. So far, thanks to God and the people around me, ushering has been able for me. Thank you.
